Hyaluronic acid is the main ingredient in dermal fillers that we use to replenish lost volume in the skin, and it runs with vitamin C and retinol as one of the most forefront components in any skincare regimen. I am going to outline exactly why it is so important and how it works to bring you youthful and radiant skin!
First, what is it?
Hyaluronic Acid or “HA” naturally occurs in our skin. It is a molecule that provides plumpness and firmness to the skin and it holds 1000x its weight in water to intensely increase the skin’s capacity to hold water, aka hydration. We are continuously breaking down and replenishing our natural HA, but unfortunately our natural production slows down starting in our twenties and slows even more dramatically in our forties. This is why we notice loss of skin plumpness, dullness, and dryness that is hard to combat with topical products alone.
Luckily, we are able to use hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers to replace our hyaluronic acid so we don’t have to deal with the consequences of this natural decline in production!

There are many topical hyaluronic acid products on the market, and I think a high quality HA serum is an amazing addition to your skincare routine, however there is just no competition for injecting the HA straight into the dermal layer where it belongs. Because of the size of the HA molecule it is difficult for it to penetrate the top layer of the skin when applied topically, which is why in my opinion the best way to replenish HA in a long-lasting way is with injection of HA based dermal fillers.
